My Response to White House''s Response to We the People Petition on Organ Harvesting in China

59099

I received White House''s  "Response to We the People Petition on Organ Harvesting in China" today, was asked to fill in a form to "let us know what you thought of the update and the We the People platform generally.", and this is what I wrote on the feedback page:

The system is good. However, I am somewhat disappointed with White House'' response. Live organ harvesting is killing people on demand, and is very different from "harvesting organs from executed prisoners ". This is an anti-humanity crime. America did NOT do enough to investigate it; nor does the White House have the courage to openly admit its existence. Tens of thousands have been murdered this way. It is a shame if the US turns its face away.

This is the petition I signed with other 34,008 people:

This petition has been responded to by the White House. See the response below.

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:

Investigate and publicly condemn organ harvesting from Falun Gong believers in China

Tens of thousands of illegally imprisoned Falun Gong believers have been used as a living organ bank, killed on demand to fuel China’s lucrative organ transplant industry, as outlined in this video: http://goo.gl/CcHPe.

The U.S. State Department’s 2011 Human Rights Report cited allegations of organ harvesting from Falun Gong believers and other prisoners of conscience. In October, 106 members of Congress wrote to Secretary Clinton requesting further information. Two Congressional hearings have covered the topic. Leading transplantation doctors and medical organizations worldwide have condemned this crime against humanity.

As a world leader in protecting human rights, the U.S. has a moral obligation to expose these crimes, stop them, and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

This is the White House''s reponse:

Response to We the People Petition on Organ Harvesting in China

Thank you for signing a petition about organ harvesting in China.

The U.S. government opposes illegal or unethical harvesting or trafficking of human organs. We have urged China to cease harvesting organs from executed prisoners and have raised this issue with senior Chinese officials. China''s leaders have announced a pledge to abolish the practice of taking human organs for transplant from executed prisoners, although we are aware of continued reports of such practices. We take such allegations very seriously and will continue to monitor the situation and the actions that Chinese authorities take to fulfill this commitment.

The Chinese government''s human rights practices and treatment of Falun Gong practitioners remain causes for concern. Since 1999, the Secretary of State has designated China as a "Country of Particular Concern" under the International Religious Freedom Act for having engaged in or tolerated particularly severe violations of religious freedom. As reported in the State Department''s 2013 Country Report on Human Rights Practices and the 2013 International Religious Freedom Report, the Chinese government''s respect for and protection of the right to religious freedom have deteriorated.

Tell us what you think about this response and We the People.
