***TUESDAY ADVISORY*** McKEON & JASEY ANNOUNCE LIVINGSTON SCREENING OF ''FREE CHINA: THE COURAGE TO BELIEVE''

(TRENTON) -- Assemblyman John F. McKeon and Assemblywoman Mila M. Jasey announced a Tuesday night screening of Free China: The Courage to Believe in the 27th Legislative District.

In collaboration with Falun Gong, a Chinese American group, The lawmakers are co-hosting a public screening of the award-winning documentary.

Free China is scheduled to be screened Tuesday, April 30 at 6:00 p.m. at the Livingston Community Center located at 204 Hillside Avenue in Livingston.

It will be presented by its co-producer, New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDT) as part of a series of screenings for public officials being organized around the country by NTDT and Falun Gong to increase the awareness of human rights abuses in China.

Directed by Michael Perlman of Tibet: Beyond Fear, the 53-minute documentary tells the remarkable survival stories of best-selling author Jennifer Zeng, a former member of the Communist Party and Dr. Charles Lee, an American Chinese businessman, who along with hundreds of thousands of peaceful citizens in China, were tortured and subjected to slave labor for their spiritual beliefs in the Falun Gong meditation practice.

The film highlights human rights violations in China that include the arbitrary detention of dissidents and harvesting of organs from live prisoners of conscience. It also addresses the issue of the export of products made by forced prison labor to the West. In the spirit of its name, Free China examines the uprising by Chinese citizens for their rights of conscience.

With a population of more than 1.3 billion and one of the world''s fastest growing economies, China has a significant impact on the rest of the world. It is critical that Americans call upon Beijing to act as a responsible world citizen and respect human rights.

With many local businesses working with Chinese partners or suppliers, and U.S. supermarkets flooded with made-in-China products, it is hoped that increased American pressure to respect human rights will have an impact on Beijing.

Tuesday night''s screening of Free China is open to the public.
