Witnessing History:One Womans Fight for Freedom and Falun Gong - $29.95
Jennifer Zeng ; Sue Wiles
''''Witnessing History'''' is the remarkable story of how a bright young scientist and happily married mother living in Beijing became an asylum seeker, estranged from her family and awaiting refugee status in outer suburban Melbourne. After many years exploring Western and Eastern philosophies and religions Jennifer Zeng found the answers she was seeking in the Falun Gong. A few short years later her newfound faith saw her blacklisted and imprisoned in a purpose-built labor camp. During her detainment Jennifer was ''''re-educated'''', a delicate euphemism for tortured, and saw many of her compatriots die. Many more remain in these camps today. ''''Witnessing History'''' is a powerful and moving account of one woman''''s escape from persecution, providing a fascinating insight into life in modern-day China, and into a little understood yet widely practised belief system. This is the first time a Chinese Falun Gong practitioner has shared their story, bearing witness to an important period of history that is still unfolding. About the Author: Jennifer Zeng was born in China and graduated with a Masters of Science in geochemistry from Peking University. Jennifer began practicing Falun Gong in 1997 and was arrested four times before being sentenced to one year''''s re-education in a Labour Camp. There she was tortured and brain-washed. In 2001 Jennifer was released and fled to Australia where she started writing an account on her experiences. Today she lives in Sydney where she has recently been joined by her husband and young daughter.
